Bituminous Emulsion C SS – 1
Chemical Emulsion, Cationic, Asphalt in-water.
Description:
Light brown, thin Sirupy consistency, smooth in texture.
Excellent coating of fine, dusty aggregates, long workability, And
no need for widrowing to obtain stability for use in base
stabilization, or in surface courses.
Uses:
-
Can use as soil
stabilizer.
-
Can use for road mix.
-
Can use for mulch
treatment.
-
Can use for crack
filling.
Material as a Soil
Stabilizer:
Dilution ratio: 1: 6
rate of application: 6 ltr/sqm
Depth of penetration ranges: 10 –20 mm (depends on type of
compaction of soil).
For Marl Stabilization:
Dilution ratio and application rate depends on the fines in the
strata.
A resudual asphalt of 6-8% sufficient to obtain good surface.
Preparation:
The surface should be scrapped and leveled.
Application:
Can be applied by travelling plant, cold mix plant, or blade mixing
for base stabilization.
Can also be sprayed for tack coat, ( fog seal, dust laying and
mulching).
Usually a minimum of 3% residual asphalt is necessary for base
stabilization and 5% is necessary for surface courses, depending on
sieve gradation on the aggregate used.
Packing:
This material is available in 200ltr and drums and bulk in tankers.

All testing methods used
are ASTM, D, 244 except for the Sand Mixing Test. The specifications
are in conformity with those of all known agencies.
Sand mixing test 200gms.
of a mixture of 96% Ottawa silica sand (#50) and 4% Air floated Clay
such as Straton (Cyprus Mines) or Volunteer (Old Hickory) is mixed
with 5% water based on aggregate weight. 3% weight of emulsion is
then added and mixed until coating is complete, usually about one
minute. This mix is compacted on roofing felt with a spatula and
allowed to dry overnight. When dry, patty should be fully and evenly
coated, with no “salt and pepper” effect. The color should be a dark
gray or brown and the patty difficult to break with finger.
Aggregates for base and surface mixes:
Gradation and composition can vary widely. Samples should be
submitted for testing.
